My dearest Yulegoat,

Thank you so much for writing for me! I hope you're not crying to yourself over my particular requests!

more details (fandoms: Harold and Kumar, Hawaii 5-0, The Middleman) )

Anyway, anything you could write with these characters would make me really happy! These guidelines are just there for your benefit if you should choose to use them.

Happy yuletiding!

So, the Yuletide Madness stories are now up, and I have two shiny new stories!

Latika and the Flat World - A Slumdog Millionaire story that gives us a look at Latika post-movie as a person, someone with her own wants and desires, and it is heartbreaking in what she remembers and in what she tries to pass on. I needed a story like this, and I'm so glad I received one.

Let's Go - Harold and Kumar being snarky and horrible to one another! In ways that don't entirely hide how much they like each other! The voices are great, and it made me sigh happily.

And now that all the stories are up, you can attempt to guess which stories I wrote! Which, of course, is very hard if you don't know where they are. Mwahahahahaha. Well, if anyone wants to take a shot, I wrote two full-length stories and one shorter piece.

Yaaaaay, more stories to enjoy!

For Yuletide, I received Grift Sense, which is Hustle fic, and it is excellent Hustle fic, all about the early days between Albert and Mickey, and it is exactly what I wanted and omg, I want to hug it and feed it cookies. The voices are excellent, and the slick, cool attitude is just perfect.

I also have Yuletide Madness treats which I am impatiently expecting. Hmpf. But in the meantime, there is plenty of fic to swim through! Yay!

(Also, um, Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates it!)

YULETIDE FIC IS TYPED UP, AND I DON'T ENTIRELY HATE IT ANYMORE.

Editing/betaing needs to occur before I am comfortable posting it, but I have sworn off working on it until after I am done with my finals. Still, I have something to post you guys! *Snoopy dances some more*

I HAVE A FIRST DRAFT OF YULETIDE FIC.

*Snoopy dances*

Uh, now just to type it up and make it not suck while desperately trying not to fail my finals and also obtain this strange new concept called "a job."

I am mildly fucked, in that my first draft is not really near done, but I think I'm at least 65% of the way through. At this point, everything I'm writing is almost entirely plot, because pesky things like characterization and like, description, would just slow me down.

Anyway, how about you guys? How much have you done? Are you all finished? Have you yet to start? Are you chugging along just fine? Are you stuck? Tell me! Commiserate!

(Also, as a coder for AO3, I've been seeing some of the behind-the-scenes stuff for collections, and it is SO EXCITING OMG.)

Dear Yule Goat,

I hope you do not hate me forever and ever for my requests! My preferences are pretty flexible. If you write me something in these fandoms with these characters, I will be happy.

General likes/dislikes: I like: joy in small pleasures; things that can be left unsaid; baking; quiet, understated friendships; palatable absences; clever dialogue; crack; magical realism; identity issues; competence; cursing; affectionate insults; near-incomprehensible, domain-specific slang; sunlight in the mornings; rainy afternoons; bittersweet moments; hard-won happiness; good advice.

I dislike: really intense hurt/comfort; easily solved miscommunication problems; soul bonds; first-person POV; being unable to live on after your significant other has died; obsessions with virginity; character bashing.

Anyway, I am sure I will love you for whatever you write in these fandoms, and I hope you get great joy out of writing them as well!

Specific requests! )

Anyway, I hope this helps! If you want to get a sense of the fic I write, you can look up what I've recently written on [livejournal.com profile] parrotfic.

Love,
me

So, here's what I wrote for Yuletide. 'Twas lot of fun and craziness, and I was so happy with what I received. Wheee!

Tears Dry On Their Own (Paradise Kiss) for [livejournal.com profile] sandoz_iscariot - My main assignment. I struggled with figuring out exactly what sort of story I wanted to tell, but in the end, I think it all worked out okay. It's definitely my story in a lot of ways. It plays to my strengths as well as my weaknesses.

Four Kisses (Merlin) for [livejournal.com profile] kalichan - I ship everyone on Merlin with everyone else. Seriously. This was my take on the future of the OT4, complete with unsubtle weather and plenty of references to Arthurian legend.

You Don't Have To Be Crazy To Work Here, But It Helps (Top Gear RPF/Doctor Who) for [livejournal.com profile] thermidor - I wrote this right around the time Yuletide Madness was REALLY settling into my brain. I don't think it's particularly good, but it amused me then, and it amuses me now, so it was worth it.

And as an extra thing:.

Better (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) - This was written for Pixie as a Yuletide Treat, but through some technical difficulties, I couldn't upload it in time. So here it is, instead.

End-of-year fic wrap up post will be forthcoming.

Also, I have been on an Arthurian legend kick, as one does. At the moment, I'm reading through Mists of Avalon, which is rather quite good. Yay for feminist reworkings. However, I do spend a lot of time wanting to punch Guinevere in the face, which is unfortunate. Like, I don't usually hate her, even as she's cheating on my woobie favorite character, Arthur, but in this one she just aggravates me ALL THE TIME. Please tell me I'm not the only one who reacted that way.

Anyway, I wrote three (3) stories for Yuletide this year. I doubt any of you have read any of them (unless you've betaed them or I've told you), but if you want to give it a shot and you get it right, I can write you fic, I guess.

Also, I'm kind of in the mood to make icons, so I might open myself up to icon requests in the near future. We'll see.

I adore Arthurian legend the way I love comic book canon, in the way they're both so easy to retell and to retell in different ways. New details can be added or old details can be discarded. It's all okay!

Also, Yuletide stories are up. All 2426 of them. I received two very wonderful presents:

Aprocypha (Carnivale, Sofie) - I love Sofie like a crazy thing, and this story captures her less-than-pleasant relationship with her mother and her strange, tense relationship with Ben in the first season. It's wonderfully moody and the Sofie voice is dead on.

Dangerous Neighborhoods (District B13, Damien/Leito) - Oh, man. This was, just, exactly what I wanted. Character and politics and the stupid little details of everyday life. This Damien is exactly how I see him, idealistic and pragmatic at the same time. And his relationship with Leito is so right, tense but comfortable. Also, Lola shows up and is awesome.

And on top of that, there are 2424 other stories to read and enjoy! I may eventually post a recs list, but I'm not sure. We'll see.

Merlin is cracktastic and ridiculously fun. I really adore retellings of my favorite stories, and it does that in quite interesting ways! I loved what they did with Excalibur, and I desperately hope that they make Arthur pull that damn thing out of a stone by the end of this. I may even have to write that fic myself.

Also! I turned in my yuletide story a few days ago, so I did not run into any difficulties there. I'm glad to see everyone else on my flist made it as well! Go us!

I am also going to attempt to write a Yuletide Treat. I think. Maybe. Or even just a pinch hit. WE'LL SEE. Who else is with me in this insanity?

Hi! Thank you so much for doing this! I will love you forever and ever for this, even if you are glowering at me at the moment.

Once again, thank you so much for doing this, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide writer! No matter what you write, you'll make me happy. :)

Coming out of my pseudo-isolation to let you know that someone wrote me a NYR fic (OMG I've gotten three stories now, and I have no idea what I did to deserve this).

It's Dune-fic, Paul introspection, and it's just wonderful.

Go read.

Got a shiny New Year's Resolutions fic! At Close of Day, which is about The Professor from The Bourne Identity, and it is full of awesomeness.

And now for something completely different:
I also got around to seeing "Merry Little Christmas." I must say that I came out of that episode wanting to punch everyone in the face. With maybe the exception of Foreman, who was kind of awesome, and Chase, who didn't do anything and has already been punched in the face fairly recently. Still pissed at everyone else, though.

I think my previous musings on the Tritter arc seem to be a little off, in light of some of the spoilers I've read and such. (I don't really avoid them. I'm just too lazy to seek them out.)

ANYWAY,
more spoiler-y musings )

Yeah, so [livejournal.com profile] yuletide authors are up, and I can now say that I wrote The Beginnings of All Things Are Small, a Batman Begins story that introduces Dick Grayson into this particular Batverse.

I'd really like to thank [livejournal.com profile] ignited for the beta job, even though she was busy, and all the RL friends who listened to me whine about how much this was stressing me out, even if they never end up reading this. Apologies to Cicero for stealing one of his quotes for the title.

So, the year in fic meme, (now with self-indulgent author's notes!):

all the fic sorted by fandom )
the actual meme )

So fannish resolutions for next year! Write more, interact more, feedback more. I really have to shake off my bad lurker habits.

SO, I'm back home now. Just in time to respond to my lovely [livejournal.com profile] yuletide feedback.

I'm pretty sure that most people can figure out which one is mine, because it's just so blatantly me that I think it's kind of funny. I would offer you drabbles for guessing the right one, but it's awfully close to the reveal, so I don't think it's really enough time.

I should probably leave feedback on some of the stories I particularly enjoyed. At some point. Hopefully.

Anyway, I'll probably blab more about the trip, fandom, and other stuff later, but right now I'm hungry.

Also, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

OMG [livejournal.com profile] yuletide!

My Santa wrote me the best fic, like, ever. It's A Jianghu Fairytale, and it's just awesome. I've totally been craving Crouching Tiger fic since forever, and not just Crouching Tiger fic, but Crouching Tiger fic about Li Mu Bai and Shu Lien, who are just about the most kick ass people in existence. And my Santa got them down perfectly, which makes me oh, so happy.

A sample:

Shu Lien liked to think of that later, much later, when Li Mu Bai was famous and the man who would be her husband was dead. Sometimes she mentioned it, when they were together. She'd say, "Remember when we met? Remember when you were dying?"

And he would say, "I remember you."

So, yes. Go read everything. And be happy.

Today has been "get shit done" day. I am quite happy about this.

A list:
1. Took my last final.
2. Beat Zelda: Twilight Princess.
3. Uploaded my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic.
4. Posted fic.

All before 5pm, too.

Also, in honor of finals being over, a meme:

Comment here and I will write you quick drabble based on the icon you use.

I swear I'm going to write them this time. For reals.

Dear Yuletide Santa,

Thank you so much for doing this. I greatly hope that my request(s) are to your liking, and that you do not wish to disembowel me at the moment, because that would suck. A lot. :(

About my requests, I would extraordinarily happy if you actually wrote the situations, but I would also be very, very happy just to recieve a anything with those characters. Seriously. So if you can't write the specific situations I asked for, don't sweat it too much. :)

I like gen/het/slash/whatever, so don't worry about that, either.

If you have any clarification questions about anything, I totally wouldn't mind if you asked the Yuletide mods to ask me.

Re: my assignment.

I, by some miraculous twist of fate, can write two of my assignee's requests, though I'm nervous about whether I can write either of them with any degree of skill.

It took me like two hours to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide today. It was kind of pathetic. And nervewracking. And pathetic.

One of my professors today dressed up as a Grim Reaper and stayed in character for the entire lecture as he was teaching us about garbage collection. It was pretty awesome. He has an accent, which just added to the awesome. "Zis pointer is red, like blood! And zis pointer is blue, alzo like blood!"

I should probably get my work done ahead of time, instead of waiting until the last minute to see if I can squeak by. That would probably be a good idea. Maybe.
