So, robots has become one of my least favorite classes, mostly because we need to work in the robots lab, which is tiny and soul destroying, especially if you spend 6-7 hour stretches of time there.

Still, it's sort of nifty to work on something that's a lot different from the programming I've done before, which is usually more about number crunching and getting the right values back. Still, here, have a blurry screenshot of our robot in action:
robot behind a yellow ball

Our main project for this semester is to get our robot to play soccer, which is both easier and trickier than you might think.

Also! I am taking an intro astronomy course for fun, and as a lab, we took several images of M82 using a high power telescope and a CCD camera. We took long exposures using different filters (red, blue, and green) and then recombined them into a final image. It was mostly computer stuff, so overall, it was very easy. Anyway, this was our final picture, and it is pretty:
not particularly big, but I thought I'd spare you anyway )
Astronomy in general has been really interesting. Man, the universe is so freaking big and fascinating and amazing. Black holes! Supernovae! The Milky Way! These things are so huge they defy our understanding. It's so crazy.

Dude, this one better be scaled. Really, really highly.

I didn't answer about 18 points worth of questions AT ALL, as well as quite possibly have screwed up the computation on everything else.

ANYWAY,

SexPowerGod is this weekend, and apparently its this really huge Brown thing, but I'm probably not going, because, hey, look, I don't like parties, even if it does sound randomly cool. Maybe next year or something.

In good news, my Econ teacher has assured all of us that no one has failed, which I really, really hope is true. Really, really.

(why am I listening to this song? *shakes fist at RENT obsessed roomie, except not really*)

I think my CS homework is attempting to eat me. Fuck you very much Analysis! I'll eat up processor cycles if I want to!

Argh.

Some people have put up "WANTED: Christopher Columbus for [doing lots of shitty things that i can't remember at the moment]" posters around my dorm, and I'm guessing, the campus.

Yay for liberal hippie schools (who still give us today off from classes anyway).

MATH EXAM IN HALF AN HOUR OMG. OMG.

(I think I know everything, but I'm still scared. To borrow [livejournal.com profile] shnarf's phrase: meep.)

I hate Econ 113 so much, omg. I'm taking the class pass/fail, and I'm still worried about it.

First major exam tomorrow. It's Math, which shouldn't be too bad, I just haven't studied at all for it. Also, I still have Math homework to do, so I should really be making my way through my English. Like, now. Of course, its a linguistics essay, and yeah. I can't wait until the weekend. A Clockwork Orange is playing at the Avon, that should be pretty cool.

On a completely different note, I think I'll be cross-posting fic here as well as [livejournal.com profile] parrotfic, except at [livejournal.com profile] parrotfic, you don't have to listen to me whine about how much Consumer Theory sucks. (No, it really does! The Cobb-Douglas utility function is one of the ugliest things I have ever seen.) I might post smaller bits and pieces of fic there that I won't post here. Maybe. I'm still not quite sure how I'll be using it.

On a somewhat related note, I posted my New Year's Resolutions fic:

Title: Not Gay
Fandom: The Office (UK)
Pairing: Tim/Gareth
Summary: Gareth Keenan is not gay.
Notes: For Halrloprillalar, who wanted "drunken awful regrettable slash". I did my best.

My Classes:

Computer Science - My favorite. I love it so much. I love coding. I love that we're on our third week and we've already done recursion. The teacher rocks, the material rocks, the TAs rock. It's all good.

Econ - Blows. I don't know what's going on half the time. Have met someone that's almost as lost as I am, so that should help.

English - Good class, janky teacher. There's just something really abrasive about her that I don't like. And vaguely contradictory, like she's trying to be nice, but it's not working.

Math - Laid back and somewhat slow, which after Econ is actually a great relief.

The deal on I Might Be Wrong: I have to finish writing the last chapter and the epilogue and then have lots of stuff edited and betaed. But I might start posting some of my "saved up" chapters as soon as I finish the main writing period. All in all, there should be a prologue, fourteen chapters, and an epilogue. So, basically, I stopped posting at the exact midpoint of the story. :p

Also, I am close to finishing a really short Roy/Hughes thing, which has been giving me trouble. I think I'll maybe post it tonight if I have the tine.

WebCT sucks major ass. I guess this means that I need to turn in my drop/add form soon, so I can actually see the site that has my Econ 113 homework posted.

I'm very tired. Not quite sure why.

Another four classes today, ack. Luckily, they were only of the 50 minute sort today. I still need to make a decision about classes. OMG.

The top review here owns my soul. I mean, who the fuck reads author's notes?

Haven't been able to write much lately. I'll try to get some I Might Be Wrong done. It's really close to being finished, and that makes me happy. Only like two more chapters left. I think.

I need to get more sleep. Or wake up later. Or something.

Have I mentioned that I really, really, really love Brown? Like really? 'Cause I do.

I went to five 80 minute classes today. Whee! Shopping is so freaking strenuous.

Jon Stewart is my hero. Liek whoa.

Batman Begins is playing at the local IMAX. Yay. I'm probably going to round up a whole bunch of people and go. I think I'm going to aim for Fri. at 7:35.

Got my class schedule straightened out a bit. I like my adviser, even though it was still new and awkward and stuff. He suggested that I take Linear Algebra instead of Honors Calculus, which would probably be better in the long run, because I'm taking a few classes that have a heavy workload, and Honors Calc would just add to that. A lot. I might shop for a Modern Culture and Media course as well, though I guess it's not a brilliant idea to take on five classes my first semester.

Also got stitches in my lip, for the first time ever, because I am a klutz and a . That was fun. At least I feel better knowing that Brown's Health Services Office knows what it's doing. And that waiting in the ER blows.

But I just got back from listening to acapella, which makes everything ok. Sort of.

I have a new laptop for college. Yay.

I need to go install The Sims KotoR Firefox onto it.

ETA: I also got my course selection stuffm, and I'm now freaking out because I have no idea what I want to take. And I think I'm going to take lots of rather boring "required" classes instead of the interesting one. We shall see.
