So [personal profile] merisunshine36 and I tried to have a conversation on Twitter about this post: Programming Sucks.

I'm not sure how much either of us got out of that conversation, mostly because Twitter is a great place for talking about breakfast foods and terrible place to have a conversation that involves multiple sentences at a time.

For those of you who are not me or [personal profile] merisunshine36, it's a delightful, funny little rant about why programming is terrible and why software in particular is notoriously difficult to work with. It sort of veers into 'we few, we happy few, we band of brothers' territory towards the end, but I think overall, it's not so much about programmers in particular so much as it is about infrastructure. And how it sucks. And how we're pretty lucky that the internet hasn't fallen over yet. Seriously.

Have been messing around with Deskbar and Beagle. Pretty nifty. It's trying really hard to be Quicksilver, I think. Still, I like it perfectly fine on its own. I'm still not used to using it, but I'm sure I'll fall in love pretty quickly once I use it on a regular basis.

I also installed Ubuntu on my parent's desktop. It's name is "wampa". I changed the name of my laptop, as well. It used to be "emery-419" after my room at Brown, but I figured since I won't be living there anymore, I should probably change it. It's now "tauntaun", because apparently I am a giant nerd.

Just watched the season finale of Smallville, and it's such a bad show, omg. And yet, for some reason I still watch it. Lois is still awesome. Chloe is still cool. Lex's manpain continues to bore me to tears. The Clark and Lex subtext is still going strong. Lana is beginning to develop a personality. I think. It's kind of hard to tell. Lionel continues to confuse me (in both good and bad ways). James Marsters speaking with his American accent still sounds weird.

Still in love with CDisplay. I love it almost as much as I love Firefox. Considering how much I love Firefox, that is saying something. I only recently discovered that it has a "Japanese mode" apparently designed to read manga. I need to dig a little more to see what it actually does, but overall, it's a brilliant program. Incredibly configurable, yet sleek and easy to use. Dude, you guys just have to check it out.

Speaking of Firefox, I've been digging Scrapbook, which is cool for organizing and saving pages (like fic).

Also, There's a beta version of Google Toolbar for Firefox (an official one, not Googlebar, though I do recommend checking that one out, too). I haven't tried it yet, but it looks nifty. I may have to in the future.
