At work, we put together jigsaw puzzles as a sort of office-wide bonding activity. I am a sucker for jigsaw puzzles, because they tickle some weird pattern recognition part of my brain. We just finished off a tricky puzzle today, and now I think I am going to be seeing those pieces in my dreams.
I am excited by my new fandom project! I still have to finish my last fandom project (it's in beta), but this is something that I am in the process of spinning up right now, and it makes me happy. I feel like it is going to be one of those experiments that is only going to be entertaining to me and maybe one or two other people, so I am determined to get as much joy as I can out of putting it all together. There was a period of time last year where I was complaining to
merisunshine36 that it felt like I was writing the same story over and over again. I think that exploring this awkward middle place between standard prose fic and experimental indie gaming is a good place for me to shake that off and try new things. I feel like maybe I need to be better at pushing the limits of the gaming aspects, of trusting my audience to want to follow me where I'm leading. I'm not a good game developer, though, and I think I need to learn how to be if I want to keep trying things like this.
For this project, I need to figure out if I'm going to build puzzles, and if I am, how I'm going to do it such that they are solvable without being in my head or reading the source code. I have some ideas sketched out as of right now, but I need to really think about them before I start writing code.
I think I'm okay with failing spectacularly here. Well, I think I'm going to have to be.
