I'm trying to do a first-pass edit my fic, but it's just kind of boring and mediocre and I can't focus on fixing it because I've been so distracted by move preparations. No, that's not entirely true. I can't focus on fixing it because every time I look at it, my eyes start glazing over. If I'm boring the shit out of myself, I can't even imagine what it would do to any of you.

Meh. I guess we'll see how this goes. I'm pretty close to ditching it and starting up something else that's more insubstantial. Bah.

Try a beta? You may just be bored because you know the story so well.

Yeah, I'm considering it, but I usually like to have most of the issues I know about cleaned up before handing it over. I don't want to waste anyone's time on things I already know how to fix. But on the other hand, I might need some outside perspective right now.

Ugh, the tough part. Maybe let it sit for a while (while working on something else)? Or moving! Moving takes a lot of energy!

Yeah, I think I might sit on it for a while, but the thing that makes me nervous is that I haven't read the beginning bits of it for months now, and even going back to reread them is not any fun.

Are you certain it really is boring...? Because from my own experience, I can say I often feel the same when I've simply been working on something for so long I've grown too familiar (and somewhat tired of) the entire thing.

I don't know! It just feels boring when I go back to the beginning to read it through, and it's hard for me to quantify why that is, because my eyes are glazing over whenever I try.
