Unfortunate Fandom Predictions

1. The more screen time the girls get on Merlin, the less popular the fandom will become.


2. Somewhere out there, someone believes their RPF smut fic actually happened.


3. In the next few seconds, a female fan in fandom will say something incredibly failtastic gender-wise about a female character somewhere on LJ.


4. Regardless of how slashy House and Wilson's relationship will be next season, there will still be a group of people on house_wilson who will insist that anything less than the two of them fucking in canon will be a cop-out.


5. As the season goes on, Glee will only get more misogynistic, racist, homophobic, and ableist. It will also be Fox's smash hit of the year.


6. Fandom's next big slash OTP will be two white guys.

I think the sounds of squee would drown out the grumblers, but the grumblers would still be there, MAKING ME CRAZY.

Also, those people who would just be annoyed about ripping off Boston Legal.

Right, like fandom would choose to slash two young white guys over a more subtext-rich pairing involving non-whites and/or non-guys. ...Oh, wait.

I mean, I kind of wish it weren't true, but I have a hard time imagining a new fandom like The X-Files, where there's this humongous, central het ship.

Though among the things that make me happy is that the Reboot fandom has turned into this big orgy of pairings. Including Spock/Uhura! And Sulu/Chekov! And Uhura/Galia! Still, the really big pairings (from the fringes, at least) seem to be Kirk/Spock and Kirk/McCoy, which is... fairly typical.

Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but I never heard the squee over Boston Legal's finale. Hence the addition of "young" to the list of things fandom requires for slash. (Not that there couldn't be other reasons BL wasn't more popular, but ageism is the strongest theory I've seen.)

Oh, I haven't heard squee over Boston Legal, either, and yeah, I do thing ageism plays into that, too.

And it really does seem to be the kind of show that would suck fandom right in immediately.

Yeah, it makes me sad, too because I kind of fangirl OT4 myself. (It's like six pairings in one! Everyone gets to join in! Even Lancelot if we're feeling nice!)

2. *tentatively raises hand* Do you mean actually happened as in "I wrote it, it must be true" or like, yes, these two have probably had sex at some point? Because I've read RPF smut about real-life married couples (well, one couple). I presume that they have, in fact, had sex at some point. :)

Yeah, I meant in that their fic is like the REAL, UNTOLD story of person X's life. Because I have seen tinhats. And they are crazycakes.

Obviously, I am not at all skeptical that married couples have sex. :P
