My year in fic 2010
Man, this has been quite the ride, this year. Sherlock ate my brain. A bunch of new fandoms for me, a little bit of crossovers with old fandoms. This is an incomplete list, mostly because I got lazy halfway through.

yuletide reveals:
Over The Face Of The Water - Main Hoon Na was my introduction to Bollywood, and I love it so. I had so much trouble figuring out how to approach this story, and I don't think I got to the heart of the movie, but I liked trying to get at some of the more serious emotions. I always liked Ram and Lucky's brotherly BFFery, and I liked trying to untangle some of the things that tie them together.
Why Benedict Cumberbatch Shouldn't Quit His Day Job - This was a pinch hit that was written at the last minute and with much panicking. I haven't written as much straight-up comedy in Sherlock fandom as I would like, and this was a chance to go for the crack again. Also, I am sad that I couldn't make Martin swear as much as I wanted to, because I love characters who have filthy mouths.
High Voltage - I was kind of sick of reading stories where John used to be a total slut and then was ashamed of it. I like to think that John would be able to own his own sluttishness without shame, and that's where most of this story was coming from.
Equivalent Exchange - Fullmetal Alchemist was one of my first fandoms, and it was really nice to revisit it here. Trufax: I didn't figure out the ending until the last possible minute, which is always kind of nervewracking with a WIP. I'm still proud of it, though.
If I Fell - I still don't entirely understand the reaction to this fic. I'm fond of it, but I spent a lot of time hemming and hawing over whether or not I wanted to de-anon and post it because I was half-asleep while I wrote it. Seriously.
Never Look Back - This one was somewhat difficult to write, but I'm still ridonkulously proud of it. I've always loved A Study in Emerald, and the chance to mix that into the darker versions of the characters was a blast. I was on a non-linearity kick at the time, and it was fun to play with that here.
Idioteque - I am always a sucker for pining, and this is pretty much all about how far Sherlock would take it. It's sort of a slight story, but hey, I wrote it for the kink meme.
The Engagement - Oh man. This is one of my favorite things I wrote this year. Seriously. It's such an absurd premise, but I like to think that I made it work and made it true to the original story. Arranged royal marriages FTW.
Between Two Lungs - To be honest, I really wanted to strangle Sherlock while watching the show for being a douchebag. And not in the sexytimes sort of way, either. I decided that it would be interesting to try to turn it into a sexytimes sort of thing and to make John be the one doing the strangling, and this is what came out of it.
And If You Try Sometime You Just Might Find - I have weird conflicted feelings about The West Wing at times, but I do love the warmth and optimism of it. I think Leo and Jed's BFFery is amazing, and Jed and Abbey's push/pull relationship is so wonderfully deep and loving. This OT3 just makes me sigh happily with how deep and and strong their relationships are. I don't know why, but I had such a hard time posting this one. It sat on my hard drive for months before I could let it go.
Five Things Jed Bartlet Learned - This was me getting a feel for Jed's voice and character. It's all about the optimism, I think.
The Prurient Pollen Pollutant Proposition (The Classic Mirrorverse AU) - I took a long break from writing at the beginning of the year because I lacked a fandom and I was way, way too busy with schoolwork to write that much. So I had a hard time with this one. I do love the Middleman a lot, and I love evil!Wendy and wish we had more of her being all competent and badass.
Oh Crap, Not Again: The Continuing Misadventures of SGA-12 - I have no regrets about this one. NCIS and SGA are surprisingly similar in tone, it turns out. And when you smush them together, really absurd things come out.
The Stories On Our Skin - You know me and crossovers, and I have an fondness for old-dude pairings, especially old-dude pairings with a frisson of more crossoveryness. Also, David McCallum and Robert Vaughn as still very badass.
Tempus Fugit - I love this OT3 a lot, and porn battle is a great place to write fun, silly stuff like this.
Places - written for the porn battle. Sam and G are so married. Seriously.

help_haiti as well. I like examining Vulcan culture, and with this one, I was trying to capture the ways in which Spock is alien.
Breaks All Chains - mirrorverse!slavefic written forhelp_haiti. I probably enjoy chances to write Mirrorverse a little too much, probably.
Caught - also for the porn battle. I do love Mary and Irene in the movie, and while I yearn for more OT4, I love the idea that Mary and Irene are having their own adventures while the menfolk sit at home and gripe about how bored they are.
Leitmotif(s) of the year: Hmm, I wrote a lot more porn this year? There was also more pining than usual, first times, etc. I keep writing the same Sherlock story over and over again, so there's that.
My best story of this year: I usually hate this one and leave it out, but I think this year, it's a tie between Never Look Back and And If You Try Sometime You Just Might Find. I just look at them and feel proud, even if they aren't necessarily my favorites.
My favorite story of this year: Hmmm, I always have trouble with this as well, but I think The Engagement is one of my favorites this year. It was just so much fun to write and to think about, and it makes me happy to think about it, still.
Story of mine most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I don't know. It's hard to say, because I get such amazing feedback, sometimes some that I'm not sure I deserve. I think I would have loved more of a response with Never Look Back, because I put so much into it, and I'm so very proud of it.
Most fun story to write: I think this title belongs to Oh Crap, Not Again. Man, I love crossovers, and I love SGA crack, and it was so much fun to think up ever increasingly absurd situations for all of them. I still love the idea of bureaucracy-obsessed aliens. Whee.
Story with the single sexiest moment: Hmm, I think Tempus Fugit is probably the hottest fic I wrote this year.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: There are probably sections of Never Look Back that qualify, but it's probably putting John and Sherlock into an arranged marriage that brings about the most shame in me. Also, I still sometimes think that the ending to Equivalent Exchange was a cheap shot, since killing off characters is an easier way to get a reaction than tonot.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I think the first fic in any fandom will shift your perceptions of them, and this time around it was Five Things Jed Bartlet Learned, because it really solidified who my Jed is and was.
Hardest story to write: Hmmm, The Prurient Pollen Pollutant Proposition (The Classic Mirrorverse AU) wins here, I think. Writing again after a long break will always do that to you, and having to write it for a challenge always screws with your stress levels.
Biggest Disappointment: This year, I don't think anything particularly disappointed me, I think. Maybe Idioteque could have been better, but I don't think it disappointed me.
Biggest Surprise: I was not expecting the sort of reaction I got for If I Fell. I thought it was decent for what it was, but I wasn't expecting it to be the most popular thing I wrote in Sherlock fandom.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Why Benedict Cumberbatch Shouldn't Quit His Day Job probably tells you more about my sense of humor than anyone ever wanted to know.
Story I haven't yet written, but intend to: Well, I'm in the middle of a WiP on the Sherlock kinkmeme that may or may not ever get finished. Whoops. Also, I've sort of plunged into Life on Mars fannishness. Whether or not this translates into fic remains to be seen. (Though I am inordinately fond of the idea of Gene Hunt: Worst Doctor Who Companion Ever or Worstest Doctor Who Companion Ever? And I have Issues to resolve with the ending of the series.)
