My year in fic: a review
So I spent most of yesterday being really sick and most of today being kind of sick, but I am at home, so my parents can coddle me, which is nice.
But anyway, this was a rocking year for me, in terms of fic. Met awesome new people, branched out quite a bit in terms of style and range, totally had a blast all around.

So, I totally managed to make my goal of 50,000 words this year, which was pretty cool. Yay.
My favorite story this year (of my own): Man, this sort of comes down to a tie between Mathletes-verse (which does count as a story, stfu) and Open Your Eyes. Mathletes-verse because it's fun! It's angsty! They compete in the mathlympics. It also confirms my deeply held belief that this pairing is awesome. Open Your Eyes also because it's so expansive and fun and even though I'd never written anything at this scope before, it came out basically the way I'd imagined it, except better.
My best story this year: I always suck at this question, and looking at this list again this year, I still don't have a clue.
Story most tragically underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: It would be hard to say that any of my stories this year were underappreciated, really, since I've been blown away by the quality and volume of feedback that I've received this year. I guess I would say that I think that Stuck In A Moment is still a lovely little fic that I love a lot, and I wish I got more of a response to it.
Most fun story: Homesickness was tons of fun to make. I mostly wrote it around the idea that I could write it all up on post-it notes and take pictures of them, and I'm very pleased with the final product. It still makes me grin when I reread it.
Most sexy story: Stateless, I think, even though the sex isn't really about sex at all. I mean, I don't think I write particularly sexy sex, but if anything I wrote last year qualifies, it's this one.
Story with single sexiest moment: I kind of love that first bit of Summer Rain, because it's so intimate and so House and Rodney. Rodney totally has a pair of boxers with tropical fish on them. You know he does.
Most unintentionally *telling* story: Singapore, probably. It totally hits on one of my favorite themes: finding connection in an unfamiliar place. I wrote it after coming home from a trip to Singapore and it was important to me to try to capture the feel of the city, though I still don't really even remember why. Maybe I should reread it again to figure that out. It's also me ripping of Lost in Translation a bit, but then again, I've been doing that since forever.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Pffft. Nothing is too wrong for me, but the closest I got, I think, is The One Where House Is A Zombie, which featured kinda-a-jerk!Wilson, touchyfeely!zombie!House, lots of references to House decaying, and some other really black humor. It was all a bit extreme, and I think some people were put off by it, but I still think it's hilarious, though.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Hmm, I guess I'd have to say Open Your Eyes, since it helped me sort of formulate my opinion on a lot of the SGA characters. It also shifted my perceptions on football a great deal, which surprised me, since I had a grudging respect for the game after watching FNL, but writing this story helped realize why people love it. Which was pretty cool.
Hardest story to write: Undressing Like Cross-Eyed Strangers, hands down. I have detailed my pain and anguish here, but to make the story short: I had a totally different idea of how the story would play out compared to how it actually did, and it drove me nuts.
Worst story: Confidential Information, probably. It's decent enough, but it's not very substantial, since I didn't have much canon, and I don't think I fleshed out the character enough or gave him a compelling enough voice for anyone to care beyond the people who already did.
Easiest story to write: Things To Do Before You Die. It came together so easily I was surprised. I angsted over whether or not the ending was too schmoopy (shut up, I KNOW) for a bit, but I went with it, and there it is.
Story I didn’t write but will at some point, I swear: Probably something from my ever growing list of awesome-ideas-that-are-half-written-and-just-need-to-be-finished like my ninja!Foreman AU or my hooker!Wilson AU. Possibly some more Mathletes weatherfic. Also possibly some SGA genderfuck. We'll see how it goes.
